At a crossroads in your life?
Even the strongest among us can feel lost, unsure, ambivalent,or unhappy at times. As a counsellor, I can help you understand and manage whatever life throws at you. I believe that you have the strength not just to survive, but to truly thrive.
I have a MA in Counselling from the University of Manchester and am a registered accredited member of the BACP. I have experience of working in the NHS and as an adoption support counsellor. I am particularly interested in work-related stress, as before training as a counsellor I worked as a solicitor in a busy commercial litigation department and therefore I understand the demands and pressures of working in a corporate environment.
Counselling, although often described as a "talking therapy", involves both talking and listening, in that it allows you a private space to talk through issues with someone who will listen attentively and respectfully.
There are a number of different types of counselling (details of which can be found on the BACP website), and the approach I use is integrative counselling. This means that I am able to use a range of methods which can be tailored to meet your individual needs.
I believe that relationship is at the heart of the process of counselling and therefore the values that underpin my approach are empathy, genuineness and acceptance.
It is not quite clear yet the full extent to which Covid-19 has impacted on mental health, however it is likely that employees will have been affected in some way. For example, there may have been increased anxiety relating to health, job security and personal finances.
Although there has been the opportunity to embrace flexible working, the reality for some employees has meant longer or more irregular hours as well as having to combine this with home-schooling leading to increased stress levels.
Counselling can be a positive way of providing support to staff that not only helps them with their mental health but can also benefit the business in terms of a happier workforce, improved morale, reduced sickness absence, increased productivity and a lower staff turnover rate.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY
Tracey Jackson, Able Care and Support Services
“Able Care and Support Services has been accessing Susan Carr counselling services for our employees. It has proved extremely successful for our staff. They feel they have had the opportunity to have a voice about their personal situations, where perhaps before, they have felt alone and isolated. As an employer we listen, support and advise, but we are not counsellors, we are a caring employer who wants our employees to feel safe and happy. Susan is approachable, supportive and understands the struggles of an employer when one of their team needs additional support that is outside of their abilities. We refer directly to Susan via email and provide the name and contact details of the employee, and Susan does the rest! Every member of staff who has accessed these services have said how much they have learned and been well supported by Susan”
